Ghosting fraud is a type of identity fraud where cybercriminals steal personal details of a deceased person to perpetrate a number of crimes for financial gains; Eg: applying for fraudulent credit cards, seeking loans so that they can escape before the crime is detected. The criminals usually have easy access to the info about the deceased person. Also, the data is cheaply available for sale on the dark web – thanks to massive data breaches and data scraping.
