WhatsApp has announced that it will finally give its users the option to encrypt their chat backups in the cloud. While the app already had end-to-end encryption, so far chats stored on the cloud were unencrypted and relatively easy to access. In the coming weeks, the new feature will allow the backups to be encrypted, with users able to store their own 64-bit encryption keys. The move provides users with long-awaited privacy and security.
