Australia to spend $1.2B to bolster cybersecurity over next 10 years

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison will reportedly announce the govt’s plan to spend $1.19B to bolster the cyber defence of private firms, households over the next 10 years. Cyberattacks cost about 1.5% of the Australian GDP. This move comes after Australia witnessed a series of a cyberattack; 2019 attack on Australian parliament, being the most intense one. The country will work on disrupting would-be attackers, fortify critical infra, boost police efforts.

Agencies suspect Chinese hackers behind Australia’s massive cyber attacks

Australian govt. and businesses, on Friday, were hit by a massive cyberattack. Government agencies suspect state-backed Chinese hackers for its execution. All sectors including govt, political organizations, education, health, service providers have been targeted. Prime Minister Scott Morrison calls the attack ‘sophisticated and state-backed’, while not directly naming China. Council of Foreign relations suspects China, Iran, Russia for the cyberattack.
