Meatpackers JBS pays $11mn as ransom to cyberattackers

JBS USA paid a sum of $11mn after its system was hacked and its operations in North America and Australia were affected. Last week, post cyberattack, cattle slaughtering at all of its plants in the US were stopped for a day, which threatened to increase the prices. Investigations are being carried out and till now no company, employee, or customer data has been leaked. Russian groups REvil and Sodinokibi have been identified as the attacker.

Acer hit by a $50 mn ransomware attack

Hacker group ‘REvil’ has demanded the highest ever ransom of $50 mn from Acer. The group used Microsoft Exchange vulnerability to gain access to Acer’s network. A deadline of March 28 is given to Acer to pay, and interestingly offered a discount of 20% if paid by Wed. Acer did not confirm the attack but said in a statement, ” …we have reported recent abnormal situations observed to the relevant law enforcement and data protection authorities in multiple countries.”
