Indian STEM Graduates Face Uncertainty Amid Proposed OPT Program Elimination

Indian STEM Graduates Face Uncertainty Amid Proposed OPT Program Elimination

A new bill introduced in the U.S. Congress aims to eliminate the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, which currently allows international STEM graduates to work in the U.S. for up to three years post-graduation. This development has caused panic among Indian students, who are now urgently seeking H-1B visa sponsorships to secure their stay. According to the Open Doors 2024 report, over 300,000 Indian students were enrolled in U.S. institutions during the 2023-24 academic year.
