US announces new fuel efficiency standards for vehicles

<p>New domestic fuel economy standards have been announced by the US Department of Transportation in an attempt to put more electric vehicles on the road and reduce reliance on other countries for fuels. The standards align with President Joe Biden&rsquo;s goal of achieving 50% of vehicle sales to be battery powered by 2030. Automakers in the US will be required to achieve an average fuel economy of 49 mpg by 2026 in comparison to the current standard of 37 mpg.</p>
