‘Five Eyes’ intelligence alliance demands ways to access encrypted apps

<p>The “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance demanded tech firms insert “backdoors” in encrypted apps to enable law enforcement agencies to police online criminality. The officials of the US, India, Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Japan said that growth of E2EE apps – i.e. WhatsApp – poses threat to public safety. Conversely, pro-privacy advocates say that implementing backdoors could endanger democracy activists and empower dictatorial govt.</p>
