China updates draft on data security released in September with new regulations

<p><strong>China’s Ministry of Industry and IT published this draft in September 2021, which deals with mass data collection by businesses in the industry. The law mandates that Chinese businesses and localities classify data according to its relevance to national security and the economy. One of the major changes is the withdrawal of the rule that “core data” which is defined by the Ministry as data which would be considered a national threat must not leave the country. </strong></p>
