Data protection is now treated as fundamental citizen right in Brazil

<p>The Brazilian Congress has passed an amendment that makes the protection of personal data a fundamental citizen right. A new section has been added to Article 5 which states that "the right to personal data protection, including in digital media, is guaranteed under the limits of the law." Rodrigo Pacheco, the president of the Brazilian Senate, said the passage of the amendment demonstrates Congress' dedication "to the non-negotiable ideal of individual liberty."<br /> </p>
