Court documents reveal that Marko Elez, a staffer at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), breached Treasury policy by emailing unencrypted personal data. The spreadsheet included names, transaction types, and amounts, but no sensitive identifiers like Social Security numbers. Elez, who resigned over past racist social media posts but was later rehired by the Social Security Administration, mistakenly received read and write access to Treasury systems, leading to a lawsuit.
