In Five Years, Mumbai Witnessed 112% Increase in Cybercrime

<p>An analysis recently published by the nonprofit Praja Foundation found that the number of cybercrimes in Mumbai increased by 112% over the course of five years, from 1,361 incidents in 2017 to 2,883 cases in 2021. Cheating cases, whether through job scams, loan apps, or matrimonial frauds, topped the list of cybercrimes last year with 1,154 FIRs filed. The following category, with 1,075 FIRs lodged, was online fraud involving debit/credit cards.</p>
