DOT finds 1.52 lakh fake mobile connections in 6 northeastern states

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has detected over 1.52 lakh fake mobile connections in six northeastern states of India. The move came after the government asked telecom companies to carry out a one-time know-your-customer exercise to verify their subscribers. The detection of fake connections will help in reducing the problem of misuse of mobile phones especially for illegal activities, and will also ensure compliance with telecom regulations.
