Indian Tax Department Demands INR 549 crore from Amazon Web Services

<p>The Indian Income Tax Department has issued a tax demand notice of INR 549 crore ($73 million) to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the 2017-18 financial year. The demand notice comes after the tax department alleged that AWS was providing taxable services to its Indian entity but did not pay the taxes due on it. AWS plans to challenge the demand in court. The company has previously said that it operates in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.</p>
