New Zealand Intends To Pass Legislation Requiring Facebook And Google To Pay For News

<p>The New Zealand government has announced plans to adopt legislation requiring major internet publishers, including Google and Meta Platforms, to pay the country&#39;s&nbsp;media firms for the local news content that appears in their feeds. Willie Jackson, the minister of broadcasting, said it will be modeled after laws of a similar nature in Canada and Australia and that he believed it would encourage internet platforms to strike agreements with regional news organisations.</p>
