Russia penalises Snapchat and WhatsApp for data storage

<p>Russian regulators have punished chat services WhatsApp and Snapchat for failing to store the data of Russian users on domestic servers as part of the government&#39;s efforts to regulate online behavior. A Moscow court fined WhatsApp 18M rubles ($300,000) and Snapchat, which uses disappearing messages, 1M rubles. Roskomnadzor, Russia&#39;s national communications regulator, filed a complaint, which led to the fines.</p>
