Russian authorities fine Google, Meta to exert tighter control over internet

<p>A Moscow court has fined Google $98 M and Meta Platforms $27.15 M for repeatedly failing to delete content Russia deems illegal. It is the first revenue-based fine of its kind in Russia. Moscow increased the pressure on tech giants in an attempt to exert tighter control over the internet. Russia's Roskomnadzor said that Facebook and Instagram failed to remove 2K content pieces that violate laws, whereas Google kept 2.6K pieces of banned content.<br /> </p>
