Unacademy lays off 1,000 people as part of cost-cutting initiative
<p>Unacademy, an edtech firm, has cut off about 1,000 people in the last two weeks, including on-staff and contract educators. The SoftBank-backed tech start-up is in the midst of a huge downsizing. Last week, the company asked around 600 employees to leave in order to cut costs in the face of an imminent slowdown in venture funding and a tightening of the economic situation. Unacademy was valued at $3.4B when it secured $440M in August of last year, led by Singapore's Temasek.</p>
