US Commerce Department plans to request proposals for chip funding by end of February

<p>The US Commerce Department stated that it intends to start soliciting applications for the $39B in government semiconductor chip subsidies by the end of February in order to construct new facilities and increase current US manufacturing. In August, Congress granted $52.7B for research and development in semiconductors as well as a 25% investment tax credit for chip factories that is thought to be worth $24B. That credit applies to projects beginning after January 1.</p>
