Google acquires AI avatar startup 'Alter' for $100 mn to take on TikTok

<p>Google purchased Alter for approx $100 M in an effort to up its content game and take on TikTok. A Google spokeswoman acknowledged the acquisition but would not elaborate on the specifics of the deal. Alter was first known as Facemoji, a platform that provided plug-and-play technology to game and app developers so they could incorporate avatar systems into their products. About two months ago, the deal was finalised, but neither business disclosed it to the public.</p>
