Google fires the engineer who claimed its AI was sentient

<p>Google engineer Blake Lemoine has been sacked for openly asserting that the company&#39;s LaMDA chatbot is sentient. Lemoine contacted officials of the state to voice his concerns. He also engaged a lawyer to defend LaMDA, which led to Google placing him on paid leave in June for violating its confidentiality agreement. Lemoine argues that the chatbot for LaMDA is more than simply a computer program and that it has its own thoughts and feelings.</p>
