Meta's Oversight Board Criticizes Policy Changes, Demands Transparency on Hate Speech Revisions

Meta's Oversight Board has sharply criticized the company's recent overhaul of its hate speech policies, implemented in January 2025. The board condemned the hasty rollout and lack of human rights due diligence, particularly concerning the rollback of protections for immigrants and LGBTQIA+ users. It issued 17 recommendations, urging Meta to assess the global impact of these changes, especially in crisis-affected regions & to enhance enforcement against bullying, harassment & hateful ideologies.
