Pakistani netizens face state surveillance scare in wake of crackdown on encrypted internet networks

<p>In a statement on the Pakistani Telecommunication Authority website, The PTA said that the use of virtual private networks (VPNs) that encrypt data violate PTA regulations, as per the Express Tribune. The PTA also said that it would crack down on VPNs, and if people wanted to continue to use them for legitimate purposes would have to register for that by October 31, 2022. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has expressed concerns over these freedom curbs.</p>
